Production trend and Stock position:

  • As per the Ministry of Agriculture first advance estimate released on September 21, 2021, Bajra production for 2021-22 was 9.35 million metric tonnes (Mn MT) compared to previous year which was 10.86 Mn MT, down by 13.90 percent
  • According to Ministry of Agriculture, the sowing acreage of Bajra as on October 29, 2021 was 0.02 lakh hectares (lh) compared to 0.00 lh during the corresponding period
  • In Haryana procurement began on October 1 and will continue till November 15, 2021

For the country as a whole, cumulative rainfall during this season till October 29, 2021 is above Long Period Average (LPA) by 38 percent. Details of the rainfall distribution over the four broad geographical regions of India are given below:

Market commentary: Price outlook

  • Overall Bajra prices have seen slight improvement and may continue to trade steady to weak in the immediate/short due to its fundamentally short shelf life and low demand in terms of consumption
  • The Government had increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) on June 9, 2021 of Bajra by 4.65 percent to ₹ 2,250 per quintal for 2021-22 compared to ₹ 2,150 in 2020-21
  • Overall prices of Bajra have been trading way below MSP
